When you’re car shopping, how do you choose the best vehicle for you? How do you make your decision? I’d imagine that you do your research, to find the right size, fuel-efficiency, price range, and even color for you. I have friends that prioritize the number of seats, and friends that focus on fuel efficiency. One of the factors that I look at is whether a car is all-wheel drive because I know that I’m going to be driving in the snow a lot. It takes a lot of time and effort to find the right car for you, but it’s worth it to get exactly what you want.
Why aren’t you putting that same time and effort into choosing your lifestyle?
Your lifestyle shouldn’t be thoughtless, acquired, or accidental. You get to look at all the factors affecting you and make a conscious decision about the lifestyle that you want.
If you’re not sure where to start, there are three factors that I would suggest you focus on:
Your time
Your talents
Your resources.
What do you have time to do? What does your schedule look like? Are you busiest in the mornings, afternoons, or evenings? Time will affect the way you approach meal planning. If you’re short on time, you need to determine what kind of workouts are going to be the most effective and efficient. You might also benefit from organizational tools and resources that will give you more time.
If your mornings are low-key, but your evenings are hectic, why are you trying to go to the gym after work? Would meal planning in the morning help to slow down your evenings?
What do you like to do? What are you good at? If you hate cooking, then opt for a lifestyle plan that doesn’t require a bunch of cooking. What other things do you love? If you love dancing, then finding a workout that incorporates that will not only boost your health, it will connect you to the parts of yourself that you love. I’m not saying that you should only stick to what you’re good at, but if you’re consistently telling yourself that you’re bad at something while you’re doing it, you’re going to struggle to stick with it.
What’s available to offer you help? What people, what books or podcasts, and what information is available to you? If you have someone in your world who can give you recipe ideas, or who will workout with you, or who will watch your kids, that’s a resource you should value!
Choosing your lifestyle will determine your future. It will determine so many parts of your health and wellbeing. Don’t just accumulate your lifestyle like hand-me-down care, running on fumes. Make a choice! Look at your time, talents, and resources, and choose the lifestyle that works for you!
When you look at your resources, I want you to add me to your list. I know how busy your life is and I can help! I can be your coach, I can give you ideas, and I can hold you accountable. If you want a partner to talk about these factors and what lifestyle is right for you, set up a time to talk. You can have the lifestyle you want! You are in charge.
