Do you feel like you're on a hamster wheel? You're working so hard and getting nowhere. Sometimes with the best intentions, we can unknowingly sabotage ourselves. Here are a few of the ways that we set ourselves back, instead of moving forward.
Number one, you have to show up! Maybe you set a goal to go to the gym a certain number of days per week, or a certain time of day everyday. Then you don't go one day. That one turns into two, then it turns into a week and so on. One of the easiest ways to ensure your success is to show up for yourself.
Another way we are sabotaging ourselves is, we fail to set goals. You have to have goals in order to reach them. Without a goal you are essentially driving in circles without a destination. There are several criteria for setting good goals. The first is that they must be measurable. Goals must also be achievable, yet challenging. Lastly, they should invoke an emotional response when you think about them. All of these things combined will motivate you to achieve that goal and create a sense of satisfaction when you do. That feeling will keep you moving toward the next goal.
Another way to sabotage yourself is to give up. It's okay to get frustrated, you may even have a setback but you certainly won't accomplish your goals, by giving up. You have to stick with it, especially when it's hard.
Another question to ask yourself is: Do you truly believe that you are worthy of the success that you are seeking? Maybe you don't feel like you should have that promotion. Maybe you don't believe that you deserve to be fit, healthy and beautiful. You have to believe that you are worthy of success in order to achieve it. If you don't believe in yourself, why would anyone else?
One final way that you could be sabotaging yourself is, your need to be in total control. You have to get uncomfortable to create change. Sometimes that means letting go of control of every little situation and going with the flow. If this is a struggle for you, find things that you can control. Things like scheduling, menus, or workouts can all be controlled by you. The only thing that is not controlled by you, is how your body responds. The more that you stress about it, the worse your body will respond. It is very hard to get healthy when you are under a lot of stress. So relax and trust the process. Know that if you are following the plan that you have laid out for yourself, change will happen.
We live in a world where many people or groups are against one another and it feels like you are all alone in your struggle. If you feel this way, don't make it worse by sabotaging yourself. Be your own biggest cheerleader! When you find yourself wanting to quit, not show up or feeling that you don't deserve success, look yourself in the eye (in the mirror) and give yourself a pep talk. It really does work! If nothing else, it will make you laugh and your happiness will be contagious. You can do anything if you get out of your own way, I promise!
