Brace yourselves! It’s coming. The onslaught of marketing aimed at making you feel even worse about yourself than you already do. Manipulative emotional marketing drives me crazy! And I can guarantee that those quick fixes won’t do anything to create sustainable healthy changes to your lifestyle! What will? A much different approach.


The danger of the Quick Fix


For the next two months, your social media feeds will be jam packed with 10-Day Detoxes, 5-Day Cleanses, and 30-Day Challenges to help you “shed those holiday pounds.” It’s all designed to create and then feed off of the shame, guilt, and insecurity you might be feeling just because you ate some Thanksgiving pie or had a cocktail at the company Christmas party.

If you are feeling guilty, first, stop and take a breath. Because any unhealthy holiday choices you made can be repaired. It’s not the end of the world.

But more importantly, that pie or cocktail aren’t the reason you feel like crap! How you’re feeling is much more likely because of your late nights and early mornings. It’s because of the relentless stress you feel working non-stop, managing family responsibilities, and keeping all the balls in the air. That’s why you feel like collapsing in bed.


Move beyond quick fixes to sustainable lifestyle changes!


A 10-day detox isn’t going to do anything for you. There’s no magic tea or shake that will fix what’s wrong. You might lose a few pounds because you’re not eating food. But that’s not solving the underlying problem. You might feel better that your scale moved, but three days after you finish your detox, the scale will move back up and the emotions you tried to bury will return.

Instead of wasting your money on magic potions and pills, what you really need to do is make a sustainable lifestyle shift that fits within your life and gives you what your body needs. You need to create habits and systems that are easy to follow, execute, and maintain. You need a plan that will help you fuel your body and reduce your stress.

Your stress is causing your body to store fat and burn muscle. Stress also shuts down your prefrontal cortex (the decision-making part of your brain), speeds up your heart rate, and raises your blood pressure. Basically, your stress is putting your body into survival mode and it’s taking a toll on your health. 


You are in charge!


So before you listen to the genius marketers preying on your emotions, please take a step back and look at the situation logically. Ask yourself, “If I do a 10-day cleanse, will it change my life? Or is it just a bandaid?” 

Look at your schedule. Your deadlines are going away and your kids aren’t going to get any less busy. Since your schedule won’t change, you need to change.
