You may have noticed if you've been following me for a while, that I started a new and different program. It's called Self-Care for Female Leaders. I rolled it out early in the year and it's been going well. However, I keep getting asked, why women? Do you not like men? Why the specificity?
The short answer is, I do like helping men. As a matter of fact, most of my clients last year were men. I've helped them make incredible changes and progress. I still help select men. But my mission in life has always been and will continue to be, to help the world become a healthier place.
Most of the men that I've worked with within the past have had one barrier that they just couldn't get past. The problem is that they’re not the boss. (Most of the time) They’re not the boss at home. Their wife or their partner is the decision-maker when it comes to buying groceries, meal planning, activities, etc. The common theme that kept popping up with my clients, was their wife or partner didn't want to make the changes that they were making or eat the way they were eating. It became a wall that hindered their progress.
As much as you gentlemen like to feel like you're the man of the house, you're not the one in charge. #sorrynotsorry The truth hurts my friend, but we all know it don’t we? You're not the boss. I'm not saying that we're stuck in the 1950s where women are the only ones running the home and doing all the cooking and cleaning and all that, but let's be real, we’re still doing it. We're just doing it while having careers and doing all the other things. We're not doing it in high heels and aprons, thank goodness, but most of the time, the lady of the house is the one who is in charge.
Our partners may help. They may get stuff at the store, they may cook, they may do a lot of things, but the person who is the captain of your ship who's really making the decisions, that's the person who needs to make this shift to be healthy. Then everyone else will be on board.
Think about it for your own home, who buys most of the groceries? Who does most of the meal planning? Who plans all the activities? Who keeps track of everyone's schedules for sports, music lessons, and vacations? Probably mom.
I've learned that if I can help women prioritize their health, the whole family comes along.
How amazing is that? Instead of just helping one person, I can help 2, 4, 6, 8 people. Here in Utah, who knows maybe it's 12!
There's another reason that I chose to specialize.
I am you.
I am this woman, or at least I was. I've always had a crazy schedule.
I run my life 1000 miles per hour, much to the dismay of my sweet husband. Who for years was telling me I needed to give myself a break. He would tell me to slow down, tell me to do less, tell me to chill out. But I couldn't fathom doing it. I couldn't understand or see what he was seeing. I couldn't understand why.
What he saw was an exhausted, stressed-out, tad bit grumpy, mom who deserved a break, but refused to take it. I did eventually listen, but not before I was redlining. I was absolutely going to break down. See this blog for more on that.
He kept saying it and I kept denying it. Because I can do all things! I'm Wonder Woman, damn-it!
I know there are a lot of ladies out there who are nodding their heads.
You women who are running companies, homes, and families are so hyper-focused on success and everyone else's needs that you have convinced yourself that you’re fine, but you’re not.
The problem is, if you don't take that break, your body's going to make you take that break. I talked about it last week in this blog.
When my clients complete this program, they come out running the world and feeling like the rock stars they are. They learn how to fuel their bodies and move their bodies for the lifestyle they want to live. They learn how to streamline their schedules, get clear on their goals and priorities, and they do it all without sacrifice. That's the key, WITHOUT SACRIFICE.
You don't have to give up anything other than your stress. You can feel great and do all the things. Self-Care for Female Leaders is a passion project of mine, born of working with a bunch of people, not just men, and seeing that the key to helping everyone get healthier, feel healthier, stay healthier, and sustain this lifestyle is to help the decision-maker, to help the boss.
