I’ve always said that DIY is an absolute don’t when it comes to your health. It usually involves so much trial-and-error that you end up moving backwards. And I know how frustrating and demoralizing it can feel to not see the results you want. But I also understand why you would want to DIY your health and wellness. Sometimes that’s the only way you can make it happen. I get that. And I think there’s a way to approach a self-guided program that avoids trial-and-error.


DIY can lead to too much trial-and-error

 

Years ago, I hit a wall in my own fitness journey. I felt like I was doing what everyone else was doing. I was doing the workouts that I saw people doing. I was eating what everyone was eating. But my body wasn’t responding how everyone else’s bodies seemed to respond. And I wasn’t feeling how I wanted to feel. 


I was so frustrated! I kept trying new things that seemed to work for other people. But they still didn’t give me the results I wanted.


Finally, on our yearly backpacking trip, I had a long conversation with my husband and I had some great realizations. After the trip, I hired a coach. I focused on my mindset and committed to some really important shifts… 

  • I worked through my limiting beliefs.
  • I got incredibly honest with myself and how much effort I was really putting into my health
  • I confronted my fear of failure and how that was affecting my lifestyle.
  • I decided to make myself a priority. Unapologetically.


But most importantly, I accepted that what works for other people doesn’t work for me. my body is not like everyone else’s. And neither is yours.


Finding a coach to guide me through that mindset process and give me tools and resources to make those changes, made my path easier and the process faster. It was the key to my success.
