Recently we celebrated the first day of spring. With that the weather has started getting warmer, the days have started getting longer; we are taking advantage of more time outdoors. Even though I am a skier and you’d think winter is my favorite season, I love what spring represents. It’s the time of year to make new choices, new beginnings, new things blooming, and new fresh starts. If you're into choose your own adventure books, you can start a new chapter in your health story.
As a health and lifestyle coach for female leaders, new beginnings are an important piece of the transformation journey. Take a few moments to reflect and look forward to the future you’re envisioning for yourself. In this new season, new month, new quarter, ask yourself if you’ve already decided to do something in your health journey. Maybe you already made the decision, maybe you already started a new journey. Or maybe
you're just kind of thinking about it.
Any time we start a new chapter in our lives, we sometimes get nervous. We may experience paralysis by analysis. That’s the idea of making an error or a wrong choice. I want to assure you, is that the thing that is making you nervous or holding you back is knowing that you may not have control over everything, right? What will this new chapter bring? You don't know; you don't have control over it. So it's a little scary, especially for those of us who are control-freak type-A people. We are much more comfortable when we have all our ducks in a row. And when you feel like you don’t have that control, sometimes you pull back and hesitate to take that leap. There’s a fear you’ll slip backward. Or maybe a worry that you’ll have to sacrifice feeling awesome so you can do this new thing.
And you know, I'm all about zero-sacrifice. And I mean it. I fully believe
you can do anything you want and feel great. You can have a great career, you can have a great family, and you can do all the things. My promise to you is that it’s possible. It's really not as hard as you're making it out to be in your head.
Let me ask you this: Have you ever considered how much energy you put into worrying and stressing over what could happen? You're exhausted, right? You already wake up tired?
Would you believe me if I told you that part of your exhaustion is from stress over what could happen? Or rehashing what has already happened in the past? It’s true.
You're using all this energy to worry about things that either you don't know that are going to happen, or they've already happened. I heard this analogy once and I absolutely loved it. And it went like this: Using your will to resist something that has already happened is like stopping the ripples caused by a leaf dropped in water. Anything you do will just make more ripples. You can't stop the ripples, so stop trying to fight them. The same is true for worrying about something that could happen.
What you can and what you should spend your energy on is what you want to have happen.
What do you want to feel?
How do you want to feel?
How do you want your life and schedule to look as you take on this new chapter this new season?
Do you want less stress?
Do you want to feel more energy?
Do you want to feel lighter?
Do you want to be able to do certain things go on hikes you know enjoy the outdoors more?
If you're frustrated with how you look and feel and if you're frustrated with the health of your family, then worrying about it stressing about it will not make any of you feel better. Trust me.
What you have to do is CHOOSE YOU.
You have to choose to live a better lifestyle.
