The other night at my son's baseball game, I was eating my dinner and noticed that what I was eating was very different than most of the other families. They were eating hot dogs, pizza, fast food meals, ice cream, etc. I was eating chicken salad from home. It made me sad and frustrated. Knowing what I know about what is in all those food items, it felt like was watching everyone eat poison.
We put our kids in sports to teach them healthy habits, work ethic and to be proud of what they can do. Why then do we demonstrate such horrible habits on the sidelines? Maybe it’s a lack of knowledge? I hope to help change that.
Kids do what you do, not what you say. Show them healthy! They are little sponges who watch your every move and download it as “what to do to be a grownup”. Be conscious of your actions and what message you’re sending them.
We all know things get stressful and busy during the week. Kids come home from school and it's off to various activities and often dinner is an afterthought. I challenge you to make it a priority to find easy, portable and yummy options. That night we had chicken salad that I threw together the night before in my instant pot. It took me less time to throw everything in and push the button than it would have to go through a drive thru or stand in line at the concession stand. I don't believe we're better than anyone, but I know our bodies are better for it. 20 min of prep for months worth of health is it pretty good deal!
It doesn’t take a lot of prep or time to create healthy meal solutions for your busy family schedule. There are many great recipes online and in magazines. I always look for recipes that have less than 10 ingredients, preferably nothing canned, except for beans, and that use inexpensive cuts of meat such as chuck roast and pork roast. It’s easier to use an expensive meat when you’re cooking it for a longer period. So not only are you saving time, but you are saving money! Win win!!
When it comes to the example that we set for our children, a little bit of effort can make a lasting impression and set them up for a lifetime of health and happiness. For meal suggestions check out my website, https://hdtransformationsclients.com/recipes.
